We are, all of us, conditioned to think a certain way and this begins from when we are born. A baby boy is dressed in blue a baby girl in pink. A boy kicks a football a girl has tea parties with dolls. This is nearly always the case, boys play with boys things and girls with girls things. There are other enlightened parents that offer more freedom to children but sadly there are not many of these. As we get older we go to school. We learn about religion, what religion we belong to and how important that is. The class we were born into influences what school we go to, the beliefs we learn and who we socialise with. We end up in certain jobs dictated by class and colour.
We then develop a kind of filter in our minds. We are brought up to see the world a particular way and we think it is the only way to see the world even if the ‘thinking filter’ is skewed or completely incorrect. Even if that form of thinking results in fear based thoughts of anxiety, depression or violence. Often we believe and we are told, that that`s the way things are, you have an identity that you have developed from being socialized a certain way. You may even be told you can be no other way and people like parents, teachers and even governments ensure that you stay the same.
Jesus taught us we must love our neighbour and his message of love is written throughout the bible. He thought us to see the log in our own eye not the splinter in others. He asked us to look at ourselves and see our own issues in ourselves not others. He never said one religion is better than another or one person is better than another.
There are those who believe that we are born to behave, think and feel a certain way forever. Do you think this is true?
What chains of beliefs have you accepted as an individual from your family or society?
What dreams do you have?
Post some comments here I would really be interested what you feel about this.
